Smokey Beast can be found next to Hopkinsons on Station Street.

If you’re craving authentic smoked barbecue meats, Smoky Beast is the place to be. It’s a meat eaters paradise. Having recently heard about an authentic smoked meat restaurant called Smokey Beast, that’s recently relocated from Sandiacre to Station Street next to Nottingham train station, I just knew I had to check them out. The kitchen operates around the back of Hopkinsons where they smoke all their meat. You can dine inside Hopkinsons and order drinks from their bar or have your food to takeaway. Their menu offers a great range of choice including, brisket, smoked chicken, sausages, beef ribs, pulled pork, mac and cheese and onion rings to name a few. We went for the 18 hour slow cooked beef brisket with crispy seasoned fries, coleslaw and a whole gherkin, the pulled pork sandwich topped with coleslaw and served with seasoned fries, and sides of mac and cheese and battered onion rings.

Incredible beef brisket with fries and slaw.

The star of the show for me was the beef brisket, It arrived with a tantalizingly dark bark that hinted at hours of slow smoking, resulting in a rich depth of flavour and tender, juicy meat that just fell apart. Each bite was the perfect balance of tenderness, with just enough fat to make it juicy without being overwhelming. The seasoning was simple but effective, adding enough flavour to bring out the meat’s natural flavours. Alongside this, the creamy coleslaw added  a refreshing contrast to the hearty brisket and fries. It had just the right amount of tang and sweetness, with a crisp texture that added a necessary creaminess to contrast the rich meat. The fries were good quality too, golden, crisp and well seasoned.

Rich, smoky pulled pork sandwich.

Next, the pulled pork burger where, once again, the quality and flavour of the pork stood out. The pulled pork is smoked to perfection, resulting in tender strands of meat that are juicy and packed with deep, smoky flavors. The smokiness is balanced with a touch of sweetness from the barbecue sauce, which complements the pork without overwhelming it, whilst the coleslaw added a nice crunch.

Golden and crisp onion rings.

Finally, not forgetting their onion rings which were sensational. They were well seasoned, fried to a beautiful golden brown, and incredibly crisp. The seasoning adds a subtle spice that enhances the natural sweetness of the onions. Served piping hot, these onion rings are addictive and make a great accompaniment to the rich, smoky flavors of the main dishes. A must try! For those who appreciate the art of barbecue, Smoky Beast is a must-visit, and their smoked beef brisket is sure to win over even the most discerning barbecue enthusiasts.
