Eat out to Help Out

During the month of August, many restaurants will be offering 50% off food and non-alcoholic drinks with the discount available up to a maximum saving of £10 per person when dining in on a Monday, Tuesday or a Wednesday. No vouchers will be required, although I’d strongly recommend booking as popular venues are likely to be busy. This fantastic initiative set up by the government will see a family of 4 able to get a meal that may have cost £80 originally for only £40. Below I’ve highlighted some of my top picks from those in Nottingham who are offering the discount as well as an extensive list which covers many of the venues that are taking part.

Indian – The Calcutta Club

With so many great Indian restaurants in Nottingham and on Maid Marian Way in particular, it was hard to choose the best but The Calcutta Club offers diners a fine dining experience in a relaxed and comfortable setting whilst also offering some of the finest Indian cuisine in the area. A vast menu consisting of classic and chef special curries will make sure that there is something for everyone. The lamb Rogan Josh is packed full of fresh flavours, well infused with garlic with large chunks of juicy lamb carrying all of the wonderful flavours. Finally, their attention to detail with the presentation of each dish really elevates the dining experience. Due to this great offer you can get a starter, curry and rice from only £14 per person. Burgers – Annie’s Burger Shack

A firm favourite of mine in Nottingham. If the mention of burgers isn’t enough then their extensive menu of over 30 burgers that are both creative and unique (and huge) will surely win you over. Their meaty burgers are juicy and packed full of flavour, their mix of beef and pork mince is a fantastic combo which is enhanced with the addition of paprika adding a slight smoky element. Even better is the fact that they offer every burger as vegan, veggie or meaty. With this great offer you could pig out on a classic giant such as a double Boston Nibble which comes served with fries for only £6.45. Don’t miss out!

Annie’s Burger Shack – 5 Broadway, Nottingham, NG1 1PR, Open 8AM – 10:30AM for breakfast and 12PM till 10PM for Burgers.

 

Fish and chips – The Cod’s Scallops

The Cod’s Scallops – Having eaten at both the Wollaton and Carrington restaurants as well as working at the Wollaton venue for the day as part of their National fish and chip award exposure I can vouch for the high standards that they set at The Cod’s Scallops. There is attention to detail in every element of their practise, with all staff highly skilled and knowledgeable enabling them to serve some of the finest sea food and fish and chips in the country. Their Wollaton restaurant currently holds the prestigious accolade of being the best fish and chip shop in the country as awarded by The National Fish and Chip awards!!! The fish has a light and crisp coating with the chips bursting with flavour from the beef dripping they are fried in. Alongside the classics are a range of fresh fish from their counter which can be baked or fried. Further to this, is their award-winning steak and scale pie filled with tender beef in a rich sauce. They have also partnered up with DG taxis to offer anyone who books a taxi specifically to one of their restaurants for the offer 20% off their taxi ride with the code CODSEATOUT. French – Bistrot Pierre

A long standing Nottingham restaurant serving fine French food at great prices. A venue I’ve been to for birthdays, anniversaries, and Sunday lunch and it’s always spot on. An elegant venue with food to match. Their beef bourguignon is a must with the beef slowly braised in red wine with shallots, mushroom and bacon alongside a creamy and smooth mash and honey roasted carrots it’s a real treat. Good quality French cuisine and with this discount you could have a three-course meal 12PM till 6PM from their Prix Fixe menu for just £7.50 each!!

Pubs – The Radcliffe

The Radcliffe is a great venue with light, modern and spacious décor alongside ample outside seating. Their menu is varied and interesting with attention to detail in terms of presentation and flavour throughout. The sliced Iberico chorizo, hot crispy fried brie, tomato tapenade, capers and watercress is a stand out item on their menu. A visually pleasing dish which the flavours working in perfect unison with creamy brie warm with a crisp exterior matching well with the sweetness of the tapenade against the salty chorizo. They also offer classics such as fish and chips, burgers and sandwiches and to finish have favourites such as chocolate tart and sticky toffee pudding amongst those you can choose from. This great offer could see you order fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding from their main menu for just £10! Bargain!!!

The Radcliffe – 64 Shelford Road, Radcliffe on Trent, NG12 1AW – Offer valid Tuesday and Wednesday 12PM – 2PM and 5PM till 8:30PM – (Please note this offer isn’t available on Mondays).

 

Tapas – Bar Iberico

Their menu is expansive and offers classics and those with a modern twist too. Amongst the must order dishes is their crispy chicken in a spicy Jerez sauce. Chunks of tender and moist chicken in a crispy coating that adds texture to the dish. The sauce is sweet yet it has a spicy edge which makes it moreish and addictive! If you’re a vegetarian (Or even if you’re not) try the crispy cauliflower, which combines a soft centre with a once again crispy coating that is full of flavour and heat from the ginger and chilli. Their menu Rapido is also available from 12PM till 6:45PM which means that with the discount you could have sourdough with olive oil and balsamic and a choice of two dishes from the tapas or Josper grill section of their menu for only £6.50 per person!!! Tasty tapas at tastier prices!!!

Bar Iberico – 17-19 Carlton Street, Nottingham, NG1 1NL – Open Tuesday and Wednesday 12PM till 9PM (Not Mondays).

Thai – Zaap

Zaap is on another level when it comes to the theming of the restaurant, creating a fully immersive experience. Tuk-tuks, vibrant artwork and an open kitchen all add to its appeal. Their Gai satay which is grilled chicken on skewers with peanut sauce is a must. The peanut sauce adds a good balance of sweet and salt whilst the coating of peanut chunks adds to the texture on this moist chicken dish. It is also essential to mention my personal favourite, the Pad Thai they serve a fresh dish with a balance of flavours and textures with a mild heat, citrus hit from the lemon zest and again texture from the crumbled peanuts. Because of this discount you could be indulging in the satay chicken skewers and Pad Thai for only £7.50!!

Zaap – Unit B, 6 Bromley Place, Nottingham, NG1 6JG – Open Monday – Wednesday 12PM till 9PM.

Greek – Cuzina –

Cuzina is a warm and welcoming venue with some outside seating also. If you can’t get to Greece this year sample their meze of Greek delights to cheer you up. Chicken gyros with tender and juicy strips of meat marinated in Mediterranean spices, filled with fresh salad and creamy tzatziki on a warm flatbread or perhaps the winning combination of salty bacon and halloumi combined with a sweet mango chutney on the side. Go all out and treat yourself with plenty of dishes on offer. With this offer a chicken gyros, bacon wrapped halloumi, a Greek salad and a tzatziki dip would cost just £12.

Chain restaurant – Nando’s

I don’t rate many chain restaurants but I think Nando’s is faultless really as it produces good quality food with flavour time and time again. Offering a range of spice levels to suit everyone it’s a win-win. From a whole chicken to a chicken wrap with fries and corn on the cob there’s plenty to enjoy here. With this amazing discount a full platter which is a whole chicken with 2 large or 4 regular sides for just £9.50!!!
